Build a school timetable for two shifts

Two shifts need more than two labels on the same timetable. Their teaching times and breaks may differ, while teachers can work across both. Model each school day clearly before generating or manually placing lessons.

Create a grid for each shift

Add separate grids, such as Morning and Afternoon. Define active weekdays, lesson blocks, breaks, and real start and end times for each one. Do not copy morning times into the afternoon grid and change only its name.

Connect classes and requirements

Choose the appropriate grid for each class and check the grid attached to its lesson requirements. Verify that the shift has enough teaching capacity for the weekly load, including double lessons and any subject-specific restrictions.

Review teachers who work in both shifts

Keep one teacher record for a person who teaches in multiple classes. Record availability and compare actual times across grids. Allow the school’s required transition time between lessons; adjacent periods are not necessarily a workable transfer.

Review the combined result

Generate in automatic mode or place lessons manually. Inspect the result by grid and class, then review shared teachers across the full day. Check remaining lessons and workload before exporting the timetable for each group of users.

Common questions

Do I need duplicate teacher records for each shift?

No. Use the same teacher identity so assignments across classes and grids can be reviewed together. Duplicate records can hide the fact that two assignments belong to one person.

Can I check this without using the generator?

Yes. Manual mode supports grids and teacher views. You still need to review warnings and the full day when placing lessons yourself.
