Find and resolve teacher timetable conflicts

A timetable may look complete in each class view while assigning one teacher to two lessons at once. Check the teacher’s actual times across all classes and grids, then distinguish impossible placements from preferences you can reconsider.

Open manual mode

Record when a teacher cannot teach

Open the teacher settings and enter availability restrictions for the relevant grid and slots. Keep unavailable periods separate from less desirable times. In manual mode these settings live in the same teacher dialog as the subject tags.

Compare clock times across grids

Review the teacher view, including classes that use another shift or grid. The first period in one grid may overlap the second period in another. Compare start and end times and allow for necessary movement between lessons, rather than relying only on period numbers.

Check which rule explains the warning

A conflict can come from overlapping assignments, availability, or a subject placement rule. Inspect the warning before moving a card. In automatic mode, use unplaced-lesson diagnostics to identify restrictions preventing a requirement from fitting.

Change the smallest relevant input

Try another valid slot first. If necessary, correct an inaccurate availability entry or relax a preference that the school can accept. Do not remove required lessons merely to hide a warning. Recheck both the teacher and affected classes after changing the plan.

Common questions

Should every preference be a hard rule?

No. Use hard rules for requirements that must hold, and soft rules for acceptable tradeoffs. Too many mandatory preferences can make a complete schedule impossible.

Does a warning automatically prevent every manual placement?

Manual mode supports deliberate placement with warnings. Read them and resolve unacceptable conflicts before sharing the timetable.
